Facebook

Putin and Obama In Disagreement on Syria at G20.

Xi Jinping Stands Alongside Russia

The 8th summit of The Group of Twenty (G20) is being

hosted in St. Petersburg, Russia from September 5 to 6.

The theme of the summit is supposed to be economic

increase and employment.

However on the current Syrian issue, US President

Obama and Russian President Putin don’t accept each others’ opinions.

The international society is also divided into two camps.

Chinese regime leader Xi Jinping attended the G20 summit

for the first time. Unsurprisingly he took sides with Russia.

On September 5, Obama arrived at the host venue of G20,

Konstantin Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Obama shook hands with Putin, turned around and left.

The British Guardian newspaper reported that Putin and

Obama’s positions were originally separated by one seat.

After some temporary adjustment, the gap between them

was widened by five leaders’ seats, when the summit started.

Putin hosted a banquet at the reception, which Obama arrived

half an hour late for.

The White House also announced that Obama and Putin

will not have official talks during the summit.

In contrast, Xi Jinping’s first time attendance at the G20 Summit

was marked by two meetings with Putin.

He also signed a framework agreement for the eastern

gas pipeline project.

Media report said during the G20 summit, Obama wanted

support from leaders all over the world to attack Syria.

This was his main purpose here.

Countries attending the summit

fell into two groups;

US supporters included France, England, Turkey,

Saudi Arabia, and Japan.

Against the US were Russia, China, Brazil, and Mexico.

Reuters says Putin’s opponent to the military strike against

Syria is the biggest obstacle in US-Russia relations.

Xi Jinping advised Obama during a meeting on

September 6th, “Think twice about attacking Syria".

Global Times owned by People’s Daily, a Chinese

Communist Party (CCP) media reported on 6th,

It said that the US plans to attack Syria

without the UN’s permission.

The US tried to develop the plan before G20,

showing off its power over international politics.

The article praises the Russian opposition to the US,

and calls for emerging countries to support Russia.

Chief editor of US Chinese magazine “China Affairs", Wu Fan,

says: “The world needs a world police.

The CCP doesn’t want to be the world police, and oppose others

who are the world police, but also wants to gain benefit from it.

It’s a strange thing in the world. The CCP wants this part.

It wants benefit everywhere, but doesn’t want to spend effort.

This is the Chinese Communist Party."

Wu Fan believes that world order needs

someone to maintain it.

Things would be more chaotic if there were no such role.

The City University of New York Politics professor

Xia Ming: “China usually hides behind Russia, opposes the US by following or cooperating with Russia.

At some point, China has no confidence to stand in front of

Russia on the international stage to confront the US."

On the G20 summit, World Vision Australia’s CEO

Tim Costello says: “they’re all looking at the utter impotence of the world

when it comes to 2 million refugees, a million of them kids,

100,000 dead in Syria. So I think it’s inescapable."

US Secretary of State John Kerry revealed on

September 4th that the US has contacted over 100 countries about attacking Syria.

31 countries and organizations have declared that

they identify Syria launching chemical weapon attack.

34 countries and organizations indicate they’ll support

taking action against Syria if that’s true.

Kerry also indicates that about 10 countries would

like to offer military help.

Some Arab league states would like to

give financial support.

Australia Foreign Minister Bo Carr announced on

September 6th the Australian intelligence agency

had identified Syria using chemical weapons

towards ordinary civilians .

So Australia will support the US to

have a military strike against Syria.

Xia Ming: “I think there are two wrong choices.

One is domestic ideology; the other is staying close to Russia and trying to

confront the US.

The global economic focus is going back to

the US and western countries.

China is very passive under these circumstances."

Xia Ming believes that China can only isolate itself by

confronting western universal values.

With the current signs of economic crisis in China,

it looks even worse for the ruling of the Chinese Communist Party.
