Four Officials on Bo Xilai’s Case Removed
Bo Xilai’s first trial has finished, now the Chinese Communist
Party’s (CCP) state-owned media has revealed that
four officials of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate
were removed. Included among them was Liu Ji’en.
Liu was the investigative team leader on Bo’s case.
It was reported that three other officials were the team members.
Outside observers say that Bo didn’t follow the prepared script
during the trial, and the court also showed some misconduct.
This angered Xi Jinping, who has tried to preserve the CCP,
and who initially intended to give Bo a light sentence.
What will be Xi’s next move?
Let’s take a look.
On August 30, CCP mouthpiece Xinhua news agency
announced the central regime’s approval for Liu Ji’en,
Wang Yunhe, He Quanyin and Niu Jinghe to be removed
from the Supreme People’s Procuratorate.
Wu Fan, current affairs commentator: “If the CCP isn’t
happy with the judges, they can quietly deal with it internally,
removing the officials and letting them go.
Why was it announced openly?
To send a message to [opposing factions], as if to say:
‘This won’t do. We will give [Bo] a heavier sentence.
If you make trouble like this, we will add more sentences,
and won’t let you achieve your goal.'"
On August 13, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, made the
announcement on its official website that
Zhong Erpu was removed from his post as vice-president
of Chengdu intermediate court.
Zhong was the presiding judge for Wang Lijun’s case
in September 2012.
This news has also drawn people’s attention.
Outside analysts say that it may be due to him that
Wang was given a lenient sentence.
During Bo’s trial, the Jinan court posted a transcript via it’s
official microblog, the contents had been deleted and edited several times.
However, it gave people insight what the CCP’s upper levels
wished to hide.
After Bo’s trial closed, a netizen with the alias Lao Dong
published two documents via his microblog.
It disclosed deleted contents by the Jinan court
during Bo’s five-day trial.
Part of it says that Bo made a fake medical certificate to
cover up Wang Lijun’s defection to the U.S. consulate.
It also had information saying that an order to surround
the U.S. consulate, with the intent to kill Wang,
was one of six-directives from the
central Politics and Law Committee.
Wu Fan: “Where is this document from?
Did Lao Dong bring a recording device into the courtroom?
Or was it leaked to him by someone working on the case?
Xi Jinping and Wang Qishan are angry.
If it wasn’t deliberately done, it is a neglect of duty;
if it was deliberate done, they harbored the crime.
It will become another case."
In addition, Bo received special, privileged treatment,
while in jail before before the trial.
Sources say that before Bo was to stand trial,
he met with his lawyer and he read and copied down his file.
In court, Bo carried the documents in a clear folder.
Hua Po, political analyst: “These guys (the four ousted officials)
just follow the top-level’s orders to handle Bo’s case.
Now they’ve been removed, because factions in the top-levels
want to shift responsibility."
Outsiders believe that Bo’s having plotted a military coup
is the main reason he’s being sacked.
Bo was allegedly involved in harvesting the organs
of living Falun Gong practitioners.
Any one of these two crimes he’s committed is enough
for him to get the death sentence.
However, Xi-Li want to maintain the CCP’s power, and Bo takes
advantage of this point, making Xi-Li hesitant to move on.
On August 29, insider Bao Guang told Epoch Times that when
Bo was minister of commerce and he visited Germany in 2006,
he admitted that his harvesting organs of living Falun Gong
practitioners was done following orders from Jiang Zemin.
Lan Shu, current affairs commentator:
“In this circumstance, there is huge international pressure.
For Xi and Li, if they decide to continue the trial,
they must replace these officials to deal with it."
Foreign media reported that when Wang Lijun fled to
the U.S. consulate
he handed in evidence that Bo’s wife, Gu Kailai,
killed the British businessman, Neil Heywood.
Heywood was a contact person for Bo to traffic organs overseas.
World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of
Falun Gong says it has evidence that Zhou Yongkang, former
member of the CCP’s Politburo, is one of the key persons
to launch the live organ harvesting.
On August 30, Hong Kong’s South China
Morning Post reported that
at the Beidaihe meeting, the CCP’s top-levels
approved a decision to investigate Zhou.
