Facebook

What Are Chinese People Thankful For & What Are They Not (Thankful For)?

Thanksgiving Day gives people a chance to show their thanks

for being alive, to parents, relatives and to Heaven.

Urban people in China have begun embracing the holiday now.

On this year’s Thanksgiving Day, the topic on it sparked

heated discussion on the internet in China.

So what are Chinese people thankful for

and what are they not thankful for?

On November 22, an article of the Wall Street Journal said,

“Encouraged by a government eager to boost consumption

and hungry for new distractions,

China’s urbanites have lately made a habit of

embracing foreign holidays.”

“By evening rush hour in Beijing on Thursday, “Thanksgiving”

(in Chinese) sat atop the trendy topics list on Sina’s Weibo, with searches producing roughly 27 million posts.”

At the same time when American families are enjoying

traditional turkey dinner, what are Chinese people thankful for?

The article said, the responses to its online survey made

on Sina’s Weibo, in descending order, were “my parents”, “everyone I care about” and “everyone in my life”.

Mr. Zhou (citizen in Qinghai): “I’m thankful for my parents

the most. The least is to that stuff spawned by the CCP’s political system.

Such as deceptive education and brainwashing,

and other junk."

A petitioner from Shanghai expressed her thanks to NTDTV

and other independent overseas Chinese media.

As they exposed the truth, which helped Chinese people

defend their rights.

Ms. Tan: “I want to thank Falun Gong practitioners the most,

as they helped pave a way for us petitioners to defend our rights.

Petitioning is a really tough way for us, but through the internet,

we’ve learned the truth about the world, about China, and about the CCP’s rotting away.

We’re really grateful to NTDTV, the Epoch Times that

uncovered the truth to let us discern CCP’s true colors.”

A handful including actor Man Chuangchuang reportedly

thanked those people who had made their lives more difficult.

By contrast, the CCP was not thanked by the Chinese.

The new CCP leadership team just made a nice promise

on governance and people’s livelihood.

Yet, all these did not get “gratitude” from Chinese civilians.

Ms. Tan: “I don’t thank the CCP at all. It has committed

so many evils, and persecuted ordinary people.

Over 60 years, it has killed numerous innocent people.

Especially those Falun Gong practitioners, the death toll is appalling.

And lots of petitioners like us are victims, too, with houses

forcibly demolished, and even subjected to criminal proceedings.”

Some Chinese netizens bravely spoke out that

they do not thank CCP leaders.

Real estate tycoon Ren Zhiqiang said in his microblog,

“I thank everyone but the government, as the government lives off the public purse.”

Economist Mao Yushi said that he is verbally attacked

when he criticizes the government.

“Firstly, I live by what I’ve earned; Secondly, the government

is not a mother, but a servant living off our taxes,

It is the citizens who have driven reforms in China;

Thirdly, there’s no need for a citizen to say thanks to the government !”

Ms. Tan: “It (the CCP) thinks that we are blind to its true

nature. It’s just too wicked.

It’s officials all target making money for themselves

by robbing citizens.

Such a rule won’t last long, the CCP

is down a blind alley now, Nobody can save it.”

A tweeter @relevantorgans mocked that the CCP authorities

might gradually “love” Thanksgiving in the same way that

they “like” Christmas which has consumption-boosting power.

Netizen Dajia Guixiu posted, “But civilians always suffer!

Look at life of European civilians under the euro crisis!

In the U.S., consumption on Thanksgiving alone can create

a new high. But in China, who dares to spend such a large amount.”
