Facebook

The CCP under heavy criticism as Japan arrested 14 activists from Hong Kong who landed on the Diaoyu Islands

On August 15th, activists from Hong Kong successfully landed

on the disputed Uotsuri Jima (Diaoyu Islands).

Most media then reported the event

in Mainland China.

Chinese netizens applauded the patriotic act of the group

and expressed their anger toward the following arrest by the Japanese police.

Meanwhile, netizens also criticized the CCP authority

for its inaction.

As a response, the Global Times published an article claiming,

“The successful defense on Uotsuri Jima results from the cooperation between the government and the civilians.”

Commentators remarked that, the CCP always suppresses

chivalrous deeds of civilians, while glorifying itself once they succeeded.

At about 4pm on August 15th, the “Qifeng II,” a Hong Kong

boat with 14 crews reached the Uotsuri Jima.

They carried the national flags of the People’s Republic

of China, the Republic of China,

and regional flags of Hong Kong and Macau with them,

attempting to plant the flags on the island.

Soon afterward, the Japanese police of Okinawa Prefecture

arrested all activists for illegal entry.

During its sail toward the island, the Hong Kong boat was

damaged when clashing with Japanese boats,

which also tried to stop them with water cannons.

Currently, all 14 activists are detained by Japan

and the five-star red flags have been impounded.

After the event, Chinese netizens criticized the CCP authority,

saying, “Despite repeated announcements of sovereignty over the Uotsuri Jima,

the government dare not send patrol boats and

even keep silent when their own nationals have been arrested on their claimed territory.”

Another netizen criticized the CCP, “military forces were

commanded to capture a criminal in Chongqing yet no one was sent to protect the Uotsuri Jima”

Hong Kong freelancer Zhang Chengjue remarked that

the successful landing on Uotsuri Jima by a civil group is a great shame to the CCP authority.

Zhang Chengjue, Hong Kong freelancer: ”The CCP always

advocates the “Rise of a Great Nation” or “the world’s second highest GDP” to glorify itself.

However, it cannot even protect a territory as small

as the Uotsuri Jima.

In fact, it is scared of Japan’s military power.

We can say that, although Japan only has a population

of over 100 million people, its military and technological power cannot be overlooked.

Therefore the CCP doesn’t want to initiate any military

conflict with Japan.”

On August 16th, the CCP’s mouthpiece media, Global Times,

published an article claiming that,

“the successful defense on Uotsuri Jima results from

cooperation between the government and the civilians.”

The article stated that although the CCP authority had not

provided public support to the activists, they were not alone;

the Japanese boats only attacked with water cannons,

not real ones, because of the national power behind them.

Beijing constitutional scholar Chen Yongmiao remarked that

this article was only a regular trick played by the CCP, who tried to glorify itself from the event by claiming its merits.

Chen Yongmiao: ”The CCP and its media always interfere

with Chinese people’s attempts to protect national benefits.

However, once the civilians manage to do something,

they turn around and claim that the achievements were made under the leadership or support of the CCP.

This party is always an expert at plagiarization.”

In addition, in their report of the event, many mainland media

replaced the national flags of the Republic of China with the five-star red flags in the picture.

Some of them even erased the flags or covered them up

with titles, which led to heavy criticism.

Chen Yongmiao: ”Xiamen Commercial News and Shenzhen

Satellite TV, including many other newspapers; have reported the event in such a way.

In a word, the CCP will never really make alliance with

Kuomintang or any political power from Taiwan.

It never cares about 『national benefits』.

Therefore, mainland media did things like this, such as to exclusively claim the CCP’s merits.”

On the night of August 15th, China’s Ministry of Foreign

Affairs urgently summoned Japan’s ambassador,

Uichiro Niwa, and called Japan’s vice foreign minister,

Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi on the matter,

requiring immediate release of all the arrested Chinese

civilians without any condition.

Zhang Chengjue: ”The CCP made an official announcement

on the matter, which sounded good.

But it is essentially only bluff and bluster.

Japan knows clearly that the CCP won’t make any moves

with real threat.

The CCP is only focused on “stability maintenance” right now

and tries to evade troubles as much as possible.

It will feel uncomfortable if any event interferes with

the coming 18th National Congress.”

In 2004, 7 mainland activists from China successfully landed

on the Uotsuri Jima.

The Japanese government arrested them too, for illegal entry,

and deported them back to China some time later.

Japanese media reported on August 16th that it was planned

that the activists from Hong Kong would be deported back according to existing agreements and past experience.

Cheng Yongmiao remarked that “deportation” resulted

from the regulations of Japan’s law over Uotsuri Jima;

if the CCP acquiesced in such a result, it was in fact

acknowledging Japan’s sovereignty over the Uotsuri Jima, which would be another traitorous act by the CCP.
