German media: Gold Medals Dominate, Doping History
The London Olympics competitions are intensifying,
and Chinese athletes’ behavior is once again a concern of overseas media.
Deutsche Welle reported that German media were surprised
by Chinese athletes’ achievements.
They are suspicious of Chinese athletes’ doping history
and question whether there will be a repeat of the 1990s.
The story cited Austrian newspapers which reported that
although China had the best chance to be dominant in gold medal wins again,
rumors about China dominating gold medals’ secrets
were spread.
It included doping and selecting child athletes and training
them without their parents’ permission.
However, because Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen’s speed was
faster then that of a male swimmer’s speed, doping became a concern of the public again.
Because Ye Shiwen’s performance aroused concern,
on July 30, German’s Die Zeit newspaper reported that
by institutionalizing doping, the country “feeds” young
athletes to be physically strong and trains them to be national heroes.
Switzerland’s Zurich newspaper also reported that it is natural
to link very fast Chinese women swimmers to doping based on what happened in the 1990’s.
When China dropped from the top to bottom,
40 athletes failed doping tests.
However, Ye Shiwen has nothing to do with that incident.
She wasn’t even old enough to go to nursery school.
However, who knows what is left over from that era,
the report questioned.
Japanese Paper Mill in Nantong Resumes Work
On July 31, Japanese Oji Paper Mill in Nantong resumed
work after thousands of protesters protested about pollution.
Oji Paper Mill declared on Monday denying the saying that
protest was against pollution of water supply.
The UK’s BBC Chinese website reported that Oji Paper Mill
group’s spokesperson said that Nantong factory was operated as usual.
International Federation of Journalist Concerns Japanese Reporter beaten by Chinese Police
Japan’s Asahi Shimbun reporter Okudera was beaten
by Chinese police when he reported the Qidong protest.
It became a concern of the international press organization.
Voice of America reported that International Federation
of Journalists (IFJ) said on July 31 that
Okudera shouted he was a reporter with a press card
during his attack. However, police ignored him.
The IFJ condemned the incident against the journalist,
urged China Journalist Association to fulfill the rights of freedom of press,
and requested an apology and the return of Okudera’s
belongings that were confiscated by police.
The IFJ demanded Premier Wen Jiabao and Foreign Minister
Yang Jiechi to investigate the incident.
China Central TV Presenter: Tell the Truth after Work
A foreign journalist was threatened in China during reporting,
what does this reveal about Chinese journalists work environment?
Recently, Sina microblog netizens posted news saying that
the Chinese Central TV presenter Lu Jia said in his profile, “Work hard to knit scarf, tell the truth after work.”
Lu commented that as a renowned media presenter
and Golden Microphone award winner, he will only be able to “tell the truth after work.”
It is clear that media persons tell lies during work.
It seems that media personnel have grown accustomed to it.
