Facebook

Yang Jia Story on Big Screen:

Director’s Family Threatened

Yang Jia was the youth who shocked the world in 2008.

He killed 6 policemen and became a hero for fighting against

the brutality of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regime.

Today, this story has been made into a movie.

The family of the Chinese director Ying Liang, who works

in Hong Kong, has been pressured by Chinese police due to this movie.

The Chinese authorizes even wanted to buy broadcasting

rights with 55 Million Yuan from Korea. However, it did not come through.

The Epoch Times reported that the independent movie

When Night Falls, based on Yang Jia’s story, received

funding from Korea’s Jeonju International Film Festival

in January 2012.

The movie tells the story of the heart-broken mother

of Yang Jia, who went to Shanghai to visit her son.

She was misled by the judge to go back to Beijing

to collect evidence that can help Yang.

Two days after she went home she got the news

that her son was sentenced to death.

She received the information two days later than others.

According to the report, soon after the shooting of the movie

was done in Shenzhen, Shanghai’s government was annoyed.

In order to block the movie, the authorities even sent people

to Korea to buy the broadcasting right.

Jeonju International Film Festival were offered 55 Million

Yuan, but did not sell.

Ying Lian: “Before the film festival, one young Korean man

visited Jeonju City hall, stating 『he has business to conduct.’

The city employee told him to talk to the festival organizers.

He told the people in charge of the film festival office: “I want

to buy it. I have connections with a company in Shanghai.

After I buy it, the festival will not broadcast this movie.

Will that be alright?”

Former China Private Enterprises magazine journalist

and columnist Liu Yiming said that everyone knows

that many things cannot be covered up, no matter

what the CCP authorities do.

Liu Yiming: “(China) does not have human rights.

That’s why heroes such as Yang Jia arose.

Although he killed many people,

he is a hero in people’s heart.”

Ying Liang expressed that his parents in Shanghai and

his parents-in-law in Sichuan are impacted by this.

Public security staffs take turns to go to their homes

and threaten them.

Two people claiming to be Shanghai Government Foreign

Affairs Office employees even found him in Hong Kong.

They asked him to “have a cup of tea.”

They also claimed that if he did not request to stop the

movie, he would be arrested when he goes back to China.

Ying Liang: “I went to talk to them, as they have been

harassing my parents for more than half a month.

They pressured my parents to ask me to stop the broadcasting.

They suggested to buy the movie and change the content.

Last time I connected with my family, my mother told me

uniformed policemen went to my home 7 times.

The situation is really something!”

However, Ying Liang did not give in. The movie was

screened at the Jeonju International Film Festival.

Liu Yiming: “It is not likely to punish him through law,

as he did not violate any law.

Once he goes back to China, he might face revenge.”

Some questioned that it has been more than three years

since Yang Jia’s death. Why is the CCP so scared?

Shanghai petitioner Mao Hengfeng said that she was beaten

and injured just for visiting Yang Jia’s tomb.

The CCP is even more scared with Ying Liang’s movie.

Mao Hengfeng: “It [CCP] is scared of people gathering

and fighting against its brutality.

It is afraid of people waking up and asking for democracy

and human rights.

If we have more people like Yang Jia in China,

will the policemen hit people at will?

Will the CCP be able to continue with its violent regime?

They cannot continue.”

Ying Liang and his wife both work in Hong Kong,

but their visas will expire in September.

He does not know what’s next with political pressures.

Accordingly, Ying Liang hopes his parents

do not work with the CCP.
