Chen Guangcheng’s Trip Aboard Not Confirmed
Chen Guangcheng said on May 7, that Chinese Communist
Party (CCP) officials promised to help him go to the US.
However, they did not mention when it will be done.
Chen Guangcheng said during a telephone interview:
“There are still some concerns. Only after they start the process can I really believe it.”
Chairman of US China Aid Association Bob Fu also
worries that the CCP authorities may change their minds.
However, analysts think if Chen stayed in the US Embassy,
this would help improve China’s human rights situation;
him going abroad actually helps CCP’s Zhou Yongkang,
head of Political and Legislative Affairs Committee (PLAC).
Chairman of US China Aid Association Bob Fu told
Deutsche Welle that Chen’s health condition is stable.
There are three bone fractures on his right foot.
Currently he is being treated.
APF reported Chen Guangcheng asked CCP officials to help
him and his family to get passports as he is hospitalized.
If everything goes smoothly, he will for sure go aboard.
Currently Chen’s friends and U.S. officials are not allowed
to go to the hospital to visit him.
Bob Fu thinks the key step for Chen to go to the US
is to be done by the CCP authorities.
He said, “It completely depends
on the progress of getting passports.”
Fu said anything is possible before Chen arrives in the US.
US Vice President Joe Biden said that US will issue visa
on the night Chen’s passport is ready.
Commentator Xing Tianxing spoke to NTD
on Chen’s issue.
Xing said, Chen attracts attention to China’s human rights
situation, yet his friends and US officials cannot visit him.
This is an example of CCP not fulfilling its promises.
Xing Tianxing: “If Chen Guangcheng stayed in the Embassy,
this would have promoted China’s human rights activities.
Once he is out of the Embassy, these advantages are gone.
He cannot even protect himself.
CCP does not care about morality. They don’t keep promises.
If CCP really wants Chen to leave, it would do something.”
Retired professor of Shandong University Sun Wenguang
also thinks Chen going to the US will help Zhou Yongkang.
Sun Wenguang: “CCP’s suppression of Chen Guangcheng
exposes its nature. Zhou Yongkang is in a tough situation.
If Chen goes, there will be no trend in China supporting him.
Zhou Yongkang and his staff would really like this.
When Chen is in Beijing, how many policemen are sent out.
Zhou hopes Chen will leave quickly.”
Commentator Mo Zhixu revealed that Chen Guangcheng’s
nephew Chen Kegui is in criminal detention, locked up at Qinan County Detention Center.
Xing Tianxing: “If the CCP does not collapse,
the issue cannot be resolved.
The crime is directly caused
by the political and legal system.”
Commentators said Shangdong local authorities
might be waiting for central government’s directions,
and might handle Chen Kegui’s case
once Chen Guangcheng leaves.
When Chen Guangcheng escaped in April, local official
Zhang Jian led people to Chen Guangcheng’s brother’s home to ask for Chen.
There were physical conflicts and Chen Kegui
took a knife for self-defense and left the village.
