Stranded travellers in some European airports finally get some good news.

在一些歐洲機場受困的旅客,終於等到一些好消息了。

Airspace has been cleared for flights across much of Europe, allowing frustrated passengers and late cargo to travel after being shut down for 6 days.

歐洲多處上空已經晴朗到可以飛行,讓洩氣的旅客和延遲的貨物,在關閉六天後終於可以航行了。

European air traffic agency Eurocontrol say about 75 per cent of flights will operate, amounting to about 21,000 of the normal 28,000 scheduled each day.

Relieved passenger Slavko Fernedic was ready to fly.

“I got here just before 7 a.m. after I checked the Internet and the ban was lifted. Well, I just came back from the counter and there were some problems because at first, they didn’t know when we’ll take off. But now it’s supposed to be 08.50 a.m. and I’m happy!"

Passengers eager to get home even drove long distances to catch flights at open aiports.

Marie-Louise Francy and her family drove from the Netherlands to catch a flight here in Munich.

“We were supposed to leave Amsterdam on Saturday to go back to Canada. We were postponed; we were booked for this morning. And then last night we found out that Amsterdam, or whoever, the flight got cancelled. So my sister and her husband, we got in the car and drove eight hours to catch a plane here. So we’re going home!"

受困乘客瑪莉-路易絲‧法蘭西說:“我們應該是週六離開阿姆斯特丹,回到加拿大的。我們被延期了,之前是預約今天早上,然後昨晚發現,不知道是阿姆斯特丹機場還是誰,把訂的班機取消了。所以我妹妹和妹夫,我們一起跳進車子開了八小時到這裡趕搭班機。就這樣,我們要回家了!”

Not everyone has been so lucky.

Airports in Sweden closed again after opening for a limited number of flights.

In Brussels, Sofia Bruce was trying to get home to Sweden after a longer-than-expected stop in the Middle East.

[Sofia Bruce, Travelling From Australia]:

“Well, I was on my way back from Australia and we had a stop-over in Abu Dhabi and that’s when they closed all airports. We’ve been in Abu Dhabi since Friday."

It could take weeks to clear the backlog of passengers, and the trouble may not be over yet.
