On Saturday night the Taipei arena held the official opening ceremony for the Deaflympics. Let’s take a look.

台北運動場在禮拜六晚上為聽奧舉辦正式的開幕儀式,現在讓我們來看一看。

“You’re joining us here for the opening ceremony of the Taipei Deaflympics. Sportsmen from around the world will be competing in their individual sporting events.”

您現在正在參與的是台北聽奧的開幕典禮,來自於全世界的選手,將會在各個不同的運動項目中競賽。

Today marks the opening of the 21st Deaflympics. Taipei was chosen as the host city and given the honor of holding the first Deaflympics competition in Asia.

今天是21世紀聽奧運動會的開幕式。台北被選為主辦城市,同時被賦予第一次在亞洲舉辦聽奧的榮耀。

The spectators and athletes from around the world have been gathering outside Taipei track and field arena throughout the day.

今天一整天來自於全世界的觀眾和運動員,不斷地聚集在台北田徑運動場的外圍。

At first glance it seems like any other sporting event, but when you stop to listen you notice something different, you notice how quiet and relaxed the environment is.

乍看之下似乎和其他的運動場合沒甚麼兩樣,但是當你停下來注意聽時,你會發現這四周圍的環境出奇地平靜與輕鬆。

Sign language is the main method of communication, and that’s what makes this event unique, it gives a group of people the opportunity to be heard on a worldwide scale.

手語是溝通的主要方式,這也是這次比賽的特殊之處,讓全世界的人能有機會聽到一群無聲人的表演。

Many volunteers made the event possible. We speak to one outside the arena.

由於許多志工的參予促成了這次活動的舉辦。我們找一位在運動場外的志工聊聊。

“I think it’s about 1000 people have participated. It’s non paid. Like I said it’s a really meaningful event so everyone, every college student wants to participate in this event.

Most of the people are form Taipei”

我想大概約有1000名志工參予,都是義務幫忙的。正如我所說的,因為這是一項很有意義的活動,所以每一個大專院校生都願意參與進來。

The newly renovated Taipei track and field arena soon filled up as crowds eagerly waited the opening performances. Those who didn’t manage to obtain a ticket found vantage points nearby buildings.

剛剛重新裝修完工的台北田徑運動場很快地擠滿了人,因為大量的群眾正熱切地等待著開幕儀式的精采節目的演出。那些無法取得門票的人,也在四周圍的建築物找到了有利觀看演出的位置。

“We’re from Germany. We’re here to visit the Deaflympic because our son is playing in the National team of Football and we’re watching the games."

我們是從德國來的。我們來台灣觀看聽奧,因為我們的孩子將代表國家足球隊出賽。

The first performance consisted of an 80 strong drum troupe from the U theatre. Following performances concentrated more on visually dramatic routines.

第一個精采的節目由來自悠人神鼓劇團80位強壯的鼓隊隊員演出,而接下來的表演以視覺表現為主的戲劇性演出為主。

Dr Donalda Ammons was a guest speaker. “Enjoy the competition, see old friends, make new friends and leave Taipei with a sense of satisfaction.”

Donalda Ammons博士是本次活動的特別來賓:「享受這次比賽,看看老朋友,結交新朋友,並且帶著滿足感離開台北。」

The worlds most renowned hearing impaired musician, Dame Evelyn Glennie performed a spectacular solo piece, and singer A- Mei flew through the air after singing the official Deaflympics song, Dreams.

世界著名的聽障音樂家Dame Evelyn Glennie表演了一曲動人心炫的獨奏曲,台灣的歌手阿妹在唱完官方版的聽奧歌曲Dreams後,坐著鋼索飛過舞台。

Throughout the ceremony the overall message was one which echoed the Deaflympic motto “You are the power”

整個開幕儀式表達出聽奧的箴言:您就是力量
