Facebook

Teacher Detained for 24 Hours For Remembering

Schoolmate Lin Shao

Middle-school teacher Pan Lu of Suzhou City Jiangsu Province

was illegally detained for 24 hours by local police.

This was for “Unlawful Assembly Planning” when she called

on netizens to memorize alumni Lin Shao’s birthday.

Lin Shao was executed during the Cultural Revolution

due to her criticism of the government.

Although her innocence was returned later, people were

banned from remembering her.

Why is the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)

so nervous about remembering Lin Shao?

December 16 was the anniversary of Lin Shao’s birth.

Middle-school teacher Pan Lu recently asked netizens to visit

alumni Lin Shao’s grave at Suzhou Lingyan Mountain

Cemetery on December 16.

Pan Lu was taken to the police station

by local police on December 15.

This is the second time this year Pan Lu was arrested for

paying homage to Lin Zhao.

On April 28, Pan Lu was arrested for planning to

visit Lin Zhao’s grave with netizens.

She was detained by police and forced into a mental hospital.

Jiangsu dissident Pan Lu: “As a citizen, I have the right to

promote on the Internet to commemorate Lin Zhao.

I was called to the police station three times this year

for commemorating Lin Zhao.

I keep my serious protest against the CCP on this issue,

since the CCP has returned innocence to Lin Shao.

The CCP persecuted her to death then returned her innocence.

When will the CCP ever stop changing back and forth?"

Pan Lu was detained for 24 hours on charges of

“Unlawful Assembly Planning."

She said that now the authorities think commemoration

of Lin Zhao’s birthday is illegal.

Pan Lu: “They have not provided any explanation for

torturing and kidnapping me.

Moreover, as a teacher of Lin Shao’s previous school,

I am entitled and also responsible to commemorate Lin Zhao.

But I am pressured from the police, school and everywhere.

Does China have law or human rights at all?"

Pan Lucy’s friend, Suzhou activist Gu Zhijian

was also called by the police twice.

Once he was detained for 25 hours, another time for 27 hours.

Suzhou activist Gu Zhijian: “Lin Zhao was killed by the CCP.

The CCP is still afraid. The power of freedom is infinite.

The CCP is afraid people are enlightened.

The authorities are pressured by teacher Pan.

They do everything possible to obstruct

commemorating Lin Zhao."

U.S. Chinese magazine Beijing Spring editor Hu Ping said,

among many of the “Maoist" martyrs, the image of Lin Zhao

is exceptionally high.

Lin Shao left behind manuscripts of hundreds of thousands

of words, including many manuscripts written in blood.

These words were mostly written in prison.

Hu Ping: “There may be many people as brave and insightful

as Lin Shao in that era, but as the CCP blocks information we

do not have many details about them. Lin Shao is exceptional.”

Why is the CCP so nervous about commemorating Lin Zhao?

Hu: “It is a one-party dictatorship. There is no fundamental

change on its control of speech.

So the CCP is very afraid of Lin Zhao’s model,

which inspires more people to step up to protest."

Gu Zhijian: “Currently people want change.

In fact, Lin Zhao carries our yearning for freedom and

discontent for the CCP and eagerness for social change.

So they suppress us commemorating Lin Zhao through fear.

Lin Zhao was born in 1931. In 1954 she went to Beijing

University news department to study.

She was classified as “rightist” during the

1957 Anti-Rightist Movement.

She was imprisoned at Shanghai Tilanqiao prison by the CCP

in 1960 on “conspiracy to overthrow the people’s democratic

dictatorship" and “counter-revolutionary.”

On April 29, 1968 Lin Zhao was secretly executed. The CCP

never officially announced the charges against Lin Zhao.

On the anniversary of 82 years since the birth of Lin Zhao,

Beijing Spring collected related articles and materials.

They made a special issue titled 82-Year Commemoration

of Lin Zhao, publishing some of her work for the first time.

Hu Ping state

d he believed this special issue would help

people have a deeper and more comprehensive understanding

of totalitarianism, that era, human nature and the present.
