Reuters: Son of Zhou Yongkang Returns to China

to Aid Corruption Investigation

Reuters reported that three sources said Zhou Bin, eldest son

of Zhou Yongkang former Chinese Communist Party (CCP)

Politburo Standing Committee, has returned to China to help

with a corruption investigation.

Since returning, Zhou Bin’s movements have been restricted.

If Zhou Yongkang were directly implicated in the probe,

he would be the most senior Chinese politician ensnared in a

corruption scandal since the Communists came to power in

1949, reported Reuters.

Reuters was told by three sources that Zhou Bin was under

quasi-detention on the outskirts of Beijing so he could assist

the party’s anti-corruption watchdog with the investigation.

A source who has direct knowledge of the matter revealed

to Reuters, “Zhou Bin agreed to return from overseas for

questioning by the Central Commission for Discipline

Inspection."

It was unclear when he returned to China, but the

questioning began around September time.

Another source said that the investigation was related to

Jiang Jiemin, former chief of CNPC and PetroChina.

According to Reuters, all three sources requested anonymity

because they were not authorized to speak to foreign reporters

about the politically sensitive matter.

Defendants’ Attorneys Were Besieged on Trial Day

Jiangxi case defendants, Liu Ping, Wei Zhongping and Li Sihua,

are charged on “unlawful assembly and disturbing public order."

The trial for Dec. 3 was adjourned because both attorneys and

the court could not reach an agreement.

During the subsequent trial date on Dec. 4 the court announced

the trial will resume the next day due to disputes on both sides.

On the morning of Dec. 4 on the way to the court, the attorneys

met several blockades guarded by police as far as one kilometer

distance away from the court.

In front of the court, the lawyers were besieged by a large

number of unidentified people who assaulted the lawyers

verbally and by actions. The lawyers were hit by lumps

of earth.

Liu Ping’s daughter, Liao Minyue, who was doing video

recording, was pushed to the ground by a policewoman.

During the trial, lawyers speaking were frequently restricted.

Attorney Yang Jinzhu retreated from the court to protest.

The trial was in recess at that point.

Liu Ping’s daughter, Liao Minyue, was also threatened

by the presiding judge about retaliation against her will.

Liu Ping constantly cried and begged her daughter to

stay out of her case during the trial.
