Facebook

China’s SA Bans Athletes to Eat Pork

The Guangzhou Asian Games gold medalist in rowing,

Huang Wenyi, is currently preparing for the London Olympics.

Recently Huang revealed on her Weibo that lean meat powder

was found in the pork offered exclusively for athletes.

China’ Sports Administration (SA) consequently banned

athletes from eating pork, afraid they might fail drug tests.

Beef and mutton are also prohibited

during “outside” meals.

Commentators worry if even “specially offered” food is toxic,

how can one trust any food to be safe in China?

On January 21st, rower in the Chinese Olympic women team,

Huang Wenyi wrote on her Weibo about an athletes’ pork ban.

On that day she received a message from SA

about prohibition on consuming pork.

When eating outside, even beef and mutton are prohibited,

leaving only chicken and fish permitted for the athletes.

Huang commented, before this they still had “safe meat”

transported from Beijing by air.

Now even such special offering has lean meat powder in it,

making one wonder is there any safe food left in this country?

Huang wrote in the next Weibo message that her team leader

joked he would raise pigs by himself.

Lean meat powder is a stimulant to the Adrenal glands

and the nervous system.

It can do great harm to human body and has been prohibited

by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Zhou Lingguo (Board member, Chongqing Nutrition Assoc.):

”Lean meat powder is a kind of a hormone.

If taken by humans excessively, it might induce

rapid heartbeats and affect the metabolic cycle.

Thus it can be damaging to the liver, the Adrenal glands,

or other physiological functions to various degrees.“

Before Beijing Olympics, China’s swimmer Ouyang Kunpeng

and US swimmer Jessica Hardy both failed Clenbuterol tests, and were banned from the games.

The 2008 Judo Olympic gold medalist Tong Wen was banned

for two years for the same reason in 2009.

Another Chinese Olympic winner in weightlifting, Liao Hui

may possibly join this Clenbuterol’ victims list.

Clenbuterol is a hydrochloride substance,

known as the “lean meat powder.”

Former national basketball team member, Chen Kai pointed

out, that athletes are only regarded as “propaganda tools.”

Their health is not what the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)

and its Sports Administration really care about.

Chen Kai:”The prohibition of lean meat powder by the SA

is not for the health of the athletes.

The authorities probably don’t want to attract international

attention, if something bad is found during blood tests.

Therefore, they are more afraid of international pressure,

rather than worried how this hurts Chinese athletes.”

Though Huang Wenyi’s Weibo messages were deleted

shortly after posting, they have been widely discussed online.

People once again express concerns

about the food safety in China.

Xue Manzi, known entrepreneur wrote: “Where’s government

spending all its revenue, without solving the food-safety problems for its people?

We fear to eat, fear to drink, and even fear to breathe.

I don’t know how we will survive like this.”

A netizen named “Feather Times” wrote:” Pork is dangerous.

Beef and mutton are also dangerous.

Chicken is famous for its high level of female hormones.

Fishponds are full of antibiotics.

Seas suffer from severe pollution of heavy metals.

Everyone knows that milk could be lethal to drink.

Cucumbers might be injected with contraceptive drugs.

Please tell me what should I feed my child with?”

Zhou Lingguo:”The group of athletes is under strict care

regarding food safety.

If even they can’t be protected properly, it’s easy to imagine

how much worse could the situation be for ordinary civilians.”

Others think, the prohibition of pork from the highest SA level

suggests CCP may had completely lost control of food-safety.

The former mayor of Shijiazhuang City, Ji Chuntang,

was dismissed due to Sanlu Group’s milk scandal.

Recently was reported that he is reappointed as the vice chief

of Hebei’s industry and information technology bureau.

Ji has showed up in public events since last October, as if

the scandal never happened, which strikes people and media.

Chen Kai:”The poisons are accumulating until they kill CCP.

The whole regime is corrupt, unimaginably corrupt,

because there’s no freedom in the society.

This is just like a body without a liver,

which is incapable of filtering the poisons out.”

Chen Kai added that, as long as the CCP is governing,

as long as there’s no freedom in Chinese society,

and as long as Chinese people do not stick to moral principles,

the toxic food would never be eliminated in China.

Without changes in what governs China and people’ hearts,

it probably will become worse in the future.
