Facebook

Maoism Leftists Burned Southern Press Newspapers

Peking University professor Kong Qingdong,

verbally abused a reporter of the Southern Press Group,

rejected an interview, and showed off in his micro blog.

The event goes on with a majority of public denouncements.

Meanwhile, in Hebei and Shanxi provinces,

the local leftists gathered to burn Southern Weekly and

other publications of the Southern Press Group,

to back up Kong Qingdong.

Analysts say that the event reflects a struggle between

China』s Left and Right forces.

Though Maoist thought has been marginalized,

the real beneficiary of the two-forces』 fight is the ruler.

Hong Kong』s Apple Daily reported that on November 18,

several netizens who professed themselves as

representatives of China』s left-wing patriots, burned

hundreds of Southern Weekly, Southern Metropolis Daily,

Southern People Weekly and among other journals

in a waste dump located on rural outskirts.

The reports said that on November 17, some Taiyuan-based

netizens bought out the latest issue of Southern Weekly that was sold locally.

They stacked hundreds of newspapers in a square and

openly burned them, accusing that the

Southern Press Group “defamed the status and prestige of

the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its government in civilians』 mind."

Southern Metropolis Daily reporter:

“Now the market-oriented media holds pro-liberalism values.

In fact, the left-wing』s netizens are actually upholding Maoism,

which is hard to say how much it can impact in China,

they haven』t got many followers in reality.

But I feel they are a bit alternative.

I』ve found it』s very difficult to reason with them, for their claims

have been very difficult to explain the reason with them,

for their claims have been very out of touch and far behind the times.

So I don』t think they』ll have too much influences.”

Known for being outspoken, the Southern Press Group is

widely considered as a front for liberal views.

Comments say that the event of burning Southern

newspapers and journals is the Maoism Leftists giving support to Kong Qingdong,

a professor at Peking University.

On November 7, with three parataxis of “sex” abuses,

Kong rejected Southern People Weekly』s interview.

Later, Kong even bragged about it in his micro blog,

incurring blasts from the media and netizens.

Even Xinhua News Agency joined the activity, criticizing

that Kong Qingdong regarded rude abuses of reporter as his personality,

urging Peking University authorities to dismiss him.

Meanwhile, Peking University students called on

the president to fire such a “50-Cents professor".

However, Kong did not tolerate on this.

Online, he blasted Xinhua News Agency which “takes the lead in producing false news".

Yang Yinbo(Writer): “The so-called right-wing and left-wing

are actually not so clearly defined, in my view.

In fact, I feel sad for them. They both seem as if they are

locked up inside a cage fighting each other, but neither is the ultimate beneficiary.

In reality, the real beneficiary is the ruler.

China』s civilians are really wretched; they have to use this sort of way to give vent.”

Apple Daily reported that writer, Li Mingsheng, criticized

the burning newspaper event as a “ridiculous, deplorable

and lamentable” practice which was handed down from

the Cultural Revolution.

Li said that some officials hate Southern Weekly』s guts,

but have failed to destroy it.

Now someone has burnt it, which can really be described

as “the autocrat hasn』t yet done it, instead, blockhead civilians have done it first !"

Former editor of Hebei People Radio Station, Zhu Xinxin,

comments that from time to time,

the CCP authorities use the Maoist force in order to

suppress the liberal force.

So the incident of the burning newspaper was pushed

by various forces behind-the-scenes.

Zhu Xinxin: “What we have seen from the general mind of

China』s civilians, is that they know the world trend.

Their human rights consciousness is also awakening.

So it』s impossible to go back to the Mao Zedong era.

In other words, the majority of people recognize the

universal values of freedom, democracy and equality. This is beyond question.”

Peking University scholars appeal, “They burned the

Southern Press, who will burn the Northern one? “

“They should fight back by burning the People’s Daily,

and tread on the Global Times!"
