Chinese Scholar』s Repetitive Foul Language Draws Criticism
Recently, Peking University professor Kung Qingdong,
who has been notorious for using foul language, once again fired at a Nanfang Daily reporter.
Mainlanders, from academia to internet users and media,
have started a wave of criticism of Kung.
A commentator indicated that Kung』s phenomenon reflects
a lack of morale in the Chinese society.
On the afternoon of November 7th, Kung Qingdong stated
in his micro-blog on the Sina website: “A minute ago,
Southern People Weekly harassed me with a telephone
interview, the attitude was very polite,
but the language was wily.” Kung claimed that his emphatic
response was “three BS-ing parallelism words.”
His micro-blog was immediately forwarded by
other netizens over ten thousand times.
His explosive foul language immediately attracted criticism
from those who believe his behavior is damaging to the image a of gentleman and educator.
This is not the first time Kung Qingdong cursed.
Prior to this, he has said, “Journalists are now major pollutants in our country,”
“If the Reporters are queued up to be shot,
I do not feel bad for anyone,”
“The Nanfang Daily News is slandering our martyrs,
our Party and our leaders” and so on.
At the same time, dozens of Chinese media bombarded
Kung Qingdong.
Even the local media of Heilongjiang province, once so proud
of being Kung』s birth place also joined in on the criticism.
On the 11th, Heilongjiang』s Shenho News published in its
official microblogging an article titled “Kung Qingdong, Please Behave."
The article questioned Kung』s evidence for condemning
Nanfang Daily and its correspondents as “traitors.”
Is it because they have reported something unsatisfactory
to this nation?
Kung does not seem to agree with these criticisms and
once again claimed on the micro-blogging, “Wonderful! Go on, sons of Bxx!”
Netizens commented, “Those who have no shame
are invincible!”
An anonymous Nanfang Daily reporter indicated to NTDTV
that Kung Qingdong is the type of person who has been brainwashed by the Maoist ideology.
Nanfang Daily correspondent (voice change): “brainwashing,
we might often refer to it as being indoctrinated during the Mao era,
and increasingly convinced by the doctrine or philosophy
which then became sacred beliefs, he then turned a blind eye to many common senses.
I believe in the post-Mao era, even the ideas and doctrines
have diversified, brainwashing still exists."
A TV program and advertising planner believed that
Kung Qingdong grew up in a Cultural Revolution generation, resulting in no moral bottom line.
TV program and advertising planner: “Those who grew up
in turmoil have no rules.
They can not survive with rules.
Only wicked people can protect themselves.
Where is the morale for those who turn themselves enemies
of their parents and their spouses?
Without the traditional moral lines and virtues,
even the traditional moral values were criticized; bottom line for conduct will no longer exist."
The TV program and advertising planner indicated that
during the Cultural Revolution,
very few people could maintain a code of ethics,
so Kung Qingdong is not one to be blamed.
In his view, Mao Zedong is the culprit leading
to moral decline in Chinese society.
Nanfang Daily correspondents believed that Maoists
have indeed destructed the morale.
However, the radical liberalism is also detrimental to morale.
Nanfang correspondent (voice change): “This is a time with
no reverence for tradition,
leading traditional morality to ruin, and the new morality
has not been established, such is the phenomenon now.
Therefore, both extreme leftist and extreme rightist believe
their own sense of justice, and curse around."
Kung Qingdong was born in 1964 and claimed himself
a seventy-third generation descendant of Confucius himself. Now a professor of Peking University in 20th century
Chinese literature, he』s self-proclaimed as “Monk Kung" and “Mao Zedong’s student."
He is also a fan of North Korea and once referred to
North Korea’s Kim Jong-il as “a great leader."
