Japan’s new government is crawling out of the worst post-War recession ever, but its ability to spend is growing more limited.

Hatoyama says Japan must wean itself from export-driven growth, while its finance minister opposes currency intervention, even with the yen at 7-month highs.

Mark Burges Watson of Japaninvest says if the policy mix is right, the nation may finally have a diplomatic clout equal to its economic might.
