Collosal $50 Billion Sochi Games – Model for CCP
While the Russian people are critical of the collosal costs of
the Sochi Winter Olympics,
the Chinese Communist regime lauded the Sochi Games and
plans to use the Sochi model for preparation
of the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Critics speculate that hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics is
mere propaganda,
since the regime’s officials are actively planning their escape
through overseas emigration, for fear of the collapse of the
regime.
The 22nd Olympic Winter Games is taking place in Sochi from
Feb. 7 to 23.
Costing a collosal $50 billion plus, the Sochi Winter Olympics
is the most expensive Olympics ever.
In an exclusive interview with Rossiya TV, Xi Jinping hailed
the Sochi Olympics.
He said that China, Applying to host the 2022 Winter Olympics,
could learn lessons from the Sochi Games.
Wang Beiji, political commentator: “Be it the Soviet Union or
Russia; with the former communist route or the current semi-
authoritarian system, is a deviant of the Western system.
The Chinese Communist Party’s system of literature, arts,
culture, propaganda, and sports,
is entirely derived from the Soviet Communist regime, since
the take over of the CCP in 1949."
Associate Professor in the Department of Asian and African
Studies, at Moscow State Institute of International Relations,
Vladimir Korsun,
told BBC China, that many Russians are displeased with the
Sochi Olympics, for wrong time, wrong place, and its high cost.
He said that Sochi is not cold enough, and it is absurd to order
artificial snows from Saudi Arabia.
Citing a Russian human rights activist, VOA reported that the
Sochi Olympic Games were criticized for corruption,
human rights violations, and the infrastructure.
In the process of construction, workers endured the loss
of their benefits and wages.
The activist said that many venues will be abandoned after
the Games.
Russians are disappointed at the unrecoverable.
wasteful investment.
He questioned that while China will learn from the experience
of Sochi, whether or not these facts will be taken into account.
Wang Beiji: “China’s 2008 Summer Olympics was criticized
for severe corruption, but none of the lessons were learnt.
Now the regime is talking about the 2022 Olympics to restore
its reputation with the international community or with its people…
it is absolutely impossible."
Wang Beiji feels that talking about the 2022 Olympics is too
early, since the CCP might not last that long.
Last September, FT Magazine reported on the Olympic curse,
referring to a cute coincidence of history that authoritarian
regimes collapse within a decade of hosting a modern Olympic
Games,
due to major economic crisis or social change.
For example, Nazi Germany collapsed in 1945 after hosting
the 1936 Olympic Games; the Soviet Union in 1991 after the
1980 Olympics;
Korea gradually stepped towards democracy after its 1988
Olympics, and Yugoslavia in the 1990’s after the 1984 Winter
Olympics.
Former Chinese national basketball team player Chen Kai
postulates,that since the 2008 Olympics,
China has been faced with uprisings; demands to improve
the environment, livelihood, and for an end to corruption.
The CCP is certainly moving towards demise.
Chen Kai, former Chinese men’s basketball national team:
“I don’t think they will be able to hold the Winter Olympics.
Their doomsday is coming.
I figure it will be in just a few years. Major changes will happen,
such as a coup or military coup, and even friction from
opponents."
Chen Kai believes that the CCP is faced with both external and
internal problems,
along with a large number of officials and the wealthy class
escaping abroad. The regime is hard to hold together.
Chen Kai: “All of China is facing a political and economic
bubble. Everyone sees that the bubble is at the brink of collapse.
Everyone is escaping. However, they still continue their
propaganda despite the process of fleeing overseas."
Recent data revealed that as of 2013, more than 9.34 million
Chinese have emigrated overseas.
International Consortium of Investigative Journalists also
reported in January that nearly all Communist high-ranking
officials possess massive property in offshore companies.
